Today there was no armistice. Today was war. After yesterday’s neutralized conclusion, the riders came out to play. Saxo bank’s Fabu and Andy Schleck broke quickly to catch up to a lone rider who nearly stole the stage on a break. Hardly anyone could keep up. With them, they brought The God of Thunder, and Cadel Evans. Big Thor took the stage, but not before the Saxo break put the hurt on Contadore and, especially, Armstrong.
Fabu is back in yellow after Chavanel had a miserable day on the cobbles, changing his bike something like 3 times. Now Fabu should hold the yellow all the way to the Alps, where he will promptly never see it again.
If Armstrong was the winner over Contador in the prologue, Contador got revenge today. Contadore is finely placed to hurt some people in the coming weeks. Armstrong looked caught out, and he had to fight hard to catch up. Even then, Armstrong lost ground.
There were more crashes today. Frank Schleck may be out of the tour after he went down in a crash. Most of the riders ate lots of cobble stone dust today. It was thus a long hard ride. The riders will deserve their one day off at the end of this week.
